Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Herstellung alkoxylierter Carbonsäureester durch Umsetzung von Carbonsäureestern mit Alkylenoxiden mit 2 bis 4 C-Atomen in Gegenwart eines basischen Katalysators, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass man als basischen Katalysator eine Mischung von Natrium- und Kalium-Verbindungen aus der Gruppe der Hydroxide, Oxide, Carbonate, Alkoholate und Carboxylate in einem Gewichtsverhältnis von Natriumverbindungen zu Kalium-Verbindungen von 20 : 1 bis 1 : 20 einsetzt.
